» candicez - publishing a memoir

I am writing a memior currently, and contemplating the publishing process...do I try to get signed on with a "bigbox" publisher or self-publish an e-book, and if I go that route, do I still have the option of signing on with a publisher later?
Any input or advice is appreciated, and I apologize if I posted this to the inappropriate thread...

Indeed, large and small trade publishers are still taking on memoirs. The ideal would be to go with a major publisher or a better independent house; to do this you need an agent. Write a superb query and continue in your quest.

One day I'll address the issue of self-publishing print or ebooks, but for now I'd suggest the above,.

Thanks for writing!

I am currently writing my story of a personal incident that I experienced 5 years ago. I am only now able to write about it with less fears of reliving it. It's been a struggle but I am staying the course. I hope to finish it within a 6 month period and am currently trying to write a Proposal to send out as I have been told and have read that everything is dependant on the "Proposal" first and not the book completion. I have been putting all of my energies into this latest endeavor as it's really been helping to rid me of my fears and haunting memories. I have the time to do this and feel blessed in this respect. I am still learning how to go about, and find just who to send my information to, all the while rewriting and polishing daily my proposal. I look for and appreciate any bit of help I am given and I forge ahead. I do not want to self publish and so will have to work extra hard to make this the best piece of work possible so it will stand on it's own. I have a long and hopefully rewarding future ahead of me as I continue, while keeping the promise to myself to complete and finalize my writing and see a book soon. Thank you, dd~
